My friend has the neighbours cats pooing in her garden. What can she put down to stop them, as she has young children? Many thanks!

My father recently solved this problem with an ultrasonic motion-activated gadget.

grated orange/lemon peel
mothballs
I suggest orange peel as most cats despise the smell. As a cat lover and a gardener I can understand both sides, but please don't harm them.

How long before some terminally retarded throwback suggests shooting the cats?
Buy tiger poo from the zoo.

It deters all other animals from your garden.

Seriously.
Are you sure its the cat. My cats poo in my garden but the dig holes to bry it. Foxes poo in my garden too but they do it on the patio.
you can buy some pellets in the garden centre that will discourage them, worked for us ...oh and Tiggy (no2 yorkie) barks like hell and chases her when she sees the cat in our garden ....dont think Tiggs would know what to do if she caught her as shes a really scardie dog!
**bury
Shoot them.
The cats or the children?
.... with a water pistol of course - what do you think I am - some sort of terminally retarded throwback ?
I bought a large container of pepper - a cheap one of course (at Costco) - and scattered it all round the edge of the garden. It doesn't hurt the cats - might make them sneeze - and as it is vegetable based it is biodegradable so doesn't hurt the garden either. It did the trick but if it rains you have to put some more down.
As mentioned you can buy repellent from garden centres. But another tip is to half fill big plastic coke bottles with water and leave them in the garden. Something to do with light reflecting through the water, and the cats don't like it.
Am fine with water pistols Canary42, I used one to deter a neighbour's cat that was bullying one of puddies.
