I can smell a gassy smell around the house, it's driving me insane, it's definitely not from the cooker/boiler, it smells different, more fume like. No one else can smell it and they think I'm barking, any ideas what it could be.

Thanks RR

Do you have a dog?
If it's a musty smell it's probably damp somewhere. Have you got a carbon monoxide alarm in the house?
Any body running an engine of any description outside ?
I know carbon monoxide is odourless but having an alarm, they're fairly cheap, would be reassuring.

Anybody have sprouts yesterday?

Tilly, yep I have a mut, and did wonder if it could be him, he's not blowing off though.

Sandy, I'm getting one tomorrow but it can't be that as I'd probably be in big bother by now.

Tony, no engine running at all, though the smell is slightly reminiscent of that type of fume.

I've had a paintbrush sat in white spirit/terps on the window sill for a couple of weeks, d'ya reckon it might be that? I'm going to fling it anyway.

Desktop, I'm definitely getting one tomorrow, where's the best place to put it?

Doug, no, no sprouts recently lol
dead mouse

Have read that on other forums, rojash, it doesn't smell how I would have thought decomposition would smell though, it's definitely got a bouquet of fuel. Must say, we have had plenty of mice activity in the past.
I had this, in my old house. It was damp.

How would I found out whereabouts Blue? There's nothing obvious that I can see.
Do what I did - go round smelling the walls! lol

(I'm being serious, by the way)

I'll give it a whirl lol, have to try something, I think the OH is ready to kill me. He can't smell a thing, nor can the kids.
Is it just inside the house? Can you smell it outside?
Maybe something's blowing in on the wind.
Question Author
Only indoors, definitely not outside.
Where did you first notice the smell and wwere is it most prevalent now. We had a definite gas smell in the kitchen of our new(old) house, I noticed that the gas hose to the cooker was 3 yearsout of daet, replaced it with a new one, no more gas smell.
That would be "the answer" Tilly

It's all over the house really, I'm in a chaley bungalow with only one bedroom upstairs, I smelt it there last night, though not at the moment, in the kitchen and lounge I can smell it and in the hall, I've not checked the kids bedrooms yet. It's not a persistent smell, it wafts about a bit, I'm wondering if I'm imagining smelling it now as I'm getting worried.
