I've got some wallpaper paste which is ready made. It says on the tub for pasting the wall. I know you can paste the wall wallpaper but the wallpaper I have has no instructions on whether or not I need to paste the wall or the wallpaper itself. What would be the better option?
Carrust it was a delight for me reading your post as my father was a painter/decorator old school and it is nice to see the proper instructions for this, unfortunately most people cut corners.
Thank you for that vakayu. Paper hanging was much easier 20yrs ago as the materials used were far better than nowadays. Most wallpaper now is made of re-cycled paper knocked up in China, even papers that cost over £80-00/roll!
Got to agree about materials Carrust, even some of the papers today with the same batch number don't always seem to be an exact match even the very expensive ones.
Carrust, what does crossline mean? I was taught to paper at a young age by one of the old school decorators and reckon I'm very good at it, but I don't know this expression.
carrust - you're dead right about making sure the surface is smooth. When we were away a year ago we got our lounge decorated whilst we were away(our MIL let them in and kept an eye). The fireplace wall was papered and they clearly hadnt sanded it down, there were so many teeny bits of 'grit poking through that we had to rip the whole lot down.
Quick update. First piece is up! I didn't bother with pasting the wall first and letting it dry but I have gently sanded the wall over, and it does feel lovely and smooth now. It's a new build so the walls and pretty smooth anyway, but thought I'd better follow some of the advise given! :-)
It's not a massive wall so not many pieces to go up. Having a quick brew now before tackling the next piece. Thanks for all the brilliant advice.
