Can A Cat Sleep In An Old Microwave?

I passed a charity shop the other day and noticed that they had old TVs that had been made into cat beds.

The glass had been taken off and all the working bits had been removed.

Would it be easy to do this to an old monitor? or and old microwave oven?

Can anyone give me guidance that takes into account my total lack of practical skills.

Cats sleep anywhere. Cut the cable off and remove the door latch.

The cat will sleep where the cat wants to sleep and will probably shun anything you buy for it and sleep in some hidey-hole it finds itself.

Mine went for a nap in the tumble drier and I turned it on (not on purpose) poor little thing. Luckily he's very vocal.

Microwave ovens might be a bit tricky to adapt a getting the door off could be tricky.

Monitors should be easier, as everything simply unscrews. A couple of safety points though:
1. The capacitors inside TVs and monitors can hold enough charge to give you quite a jolt long after they've been connected to the mains. Handle electronic components carefully ;
2. There's a vacuum inside a cathode ray tube, which means that they implode if broken (with shards of glass flying everywhere). If you need to dispose of a CRT, wrap it in a sack (or similar), stand well back and hit it with a shovel!

Chris - not for one moment did I think that this idea would have instructions out there in the www.

ummmm - my two ignore the washing machine but I found Frankie in the fridge once. He was only there for a couple of minutes as I was putting all the shopping away.

Spikey - my two like cardboard boxes most of the time, But as it is winter a hot radiator and a duvet are in demand.

I suppose that I had better go and remove Frankie from my bed and get some sleep.

The only problem here afaic is that cats like to move on.
You can buy them the most luxurious sleeping quarters ever, but instinctively, as soon as they have saturated the place with their scent, they will sleep elsewhere, even if it's just a stack of newspapers.

When my cat comes in the bedroom we have to lay still and completely ignore him. Don't move and limit your breathing. The slightest movement will send him off purring and pawing. If we ignore him he goes to the end of the bed.

Unlike most cats he doesn't get up in the morning. He has never woken me up for food. Only wakes me up if he needs a wee.

mine just prefers a cardboard box in the garage. It has a little cushion inside with his favourite washable cover on. Ive never bought a cat bed yet and weve had him 12 years

I turned my back while putting away the shopping, and found No. 1 Son in the salad compartment of my fridge....

what an amazing thread, I too am staggered that there are on-line instructions for making this sort of thing!

I've been down to the town (100 yards max) and passed the shop. They have three old TVs standing on each other and they are selling it as a three shelf unit - £15 I think.

They are actually quite cute - wonder where they got so many old TVs.

Merlin likes sleeping on the printer and Frankie is hogging the sofa - so I will put my idea on hold for now.

Your local household waste recycling site will probably have a shipping container where people just add them to the pile inside. A quick word with the guys who run the place, and the exchange of a small amount of cash, should enable you to choose from hundreds of old TVs and monitors.
