Inside of the drum of our washing machine, there are three pertruding pieces of oblong hollow plastic, not sure what these are for, but two have come away now and the third wont be long behind it. Can anyone tell me what these are for and if the washing machine can no longer be used. TIAx

they are your paddles 1 of mine came off last year i couldnt use it till i got a new paddle as there was some sharp pieces of metal sticking up
I think they are the paddles that agitate the washing - essential for the detergent to do its work.

Can you glue them back into position? I suggest Araldite.

Thanks guys! Brilliant, take it that araldite is waterproof?
Yes it is, but it's one of those you have to mix two parts together, apply, and then give time to set.
Although epoxy resins are very good, I can think of a few problems.
It will be a tough job to stick smooth plastic onto smooth metal and expect it to stay fixed under water in differing temperatures. Also, there will be considerable stresses on the paddles when lots of heavy wet washing is moving around and then spinning.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think you'll need (at least) a new drum.
