Any tips on where to go to order hardcore over the phone please?

We have just been quoted £46 from Wickes. Is this reasonble?

Have decided yet what to buy, so he is breaking up loads and loads of spare blocks and stuff at mo.

Hi Builder, the pond is now half full of rubble.
Pond measures 5' 2" x 7'5"

The deepest point is 2' 3" in the middle of the pond.
There are shelves all round the sides.

Quarry products vary all over the country, Puss. I would normally have dumpy(jumbo) bags of 40mm "scalpings" for something like this.
It'll comprise 40mm stone right down to dust, with all the sizes in between.
Very good for packing in hard for a neat finish.

If including VAT, that price is about right. Depending on how deep the pond is, I would say 2 x 850kg bags would be plenty considering you've part-filled already.

They'll crane the bags off, so if your pond is near the drive, then that would make it easy.

Our pond isnt near front garden, but no problem, can carry it through to the back.
Wickes have stated £25 deliverery charge (that ok?)

Ha... kind of you to say so Puss.

In that case, You should go to any builders' merchant and ask them for a price. With trade accounts, the prices includes delivery. I never have to pay extra.

Possibly not applicable to non-trade deals, but well worth asking them. Contrary to what most people think, merchants do quite a lot of trade with "civilians".

pusskin, someone I know had some hardcore they wanted to get rid of so they advertised it. People kept ringing up wanting the other kind!

Have been relating your answers to mr Puss, and he thanks you too for very helpfull advice. he will go to a fairly local builders seeing as we will be over that way tomorrow.

£45 plus £25 delivery sounds a bit steep to me for what is basically a waste product (not based on any experience I might add, just gut feeling which may of course be wildly wrong).

Could you not try local papers, notice-boards, etc. for people trying to get rid of some.

Wish you lived near me. I am about to order a skip to get rid of all the stones in my garden. Haven't lived here very long and the man who owned this house before relied a lot on stones and pebbles. Personally I like flowers. The garden is a mess at the moment but gradually I will get it straight. First of all is get rid of the stones!

This may sound daft but have you tried freecycle?
There is always someone trying to get rid of rubble/hardcore etc in my local group

Of course, you'd have to collect it yourself but it would be free
