We've just been informed of our new council multi recycling starting in March. I know I shouldn't knock it but where do they think people are going to store 3 wheelie bins and 3 boxes then lug the right selection out each week ? What do people in flats do? And those unable to move them about?
I'm glad you agree ummmm. Currently we have to use our own bin bags and just a fortnightly box. never had a wheelie. This will require a grotty space in the garden for us but overall it's going to be a nightmare for some. I assume there's no opt out either.
We don't have a front garden either (live in a terraced house) but we've still got wheelie bins.
We either have to drag them through the house and leave them outside the front door (I don't think so!) or wheel them down to the bottom of the alley way at the back of the house.
At least I've only got one bin, one box and one bag. My mum is in a different council and has 3 bins, 2 boxes and a bag. I just wouldn't have the room in my tiny back yard to store them!
Why shouldn't you knock it ? Did you vote for a bunch of pests to make your life more difficult ? Need to get rid of the lot of them. Local & national. If only there was a good suggestion for an alternative. A democracy maybe ?
We used to have 3 wheelie bins and a blue box. They stopped doing the bluebox which was for glass as uneconomic to collect. Greybin for domestic waste collected weekly, Brown bin for recyclable items except glass and corrugated cardboard collected fortnightly, Green bin for garden waste collected fortnightly except for the winter when two special days are booked in advance.
If it's not in a bin and on the edge of your property it's not collected except for corrugated cardboard which must be tied up with string alongside the brown bin.
The Bins decorate my small front garden in competition with my car and I have to move them round every bin day.
My neighbours (both disabled) point blank refused the Brown bin, because they are double sized and it was obvious they couldn't move them. After a lot of argument the council capitulated and they continue to use the old orange bags. They still have to use the other two bins though.
A month or so ago, we got:-
black bin- rubbish (2weekly)
blue bin- recycling
black box-paper
brown bin- food (and maggots)
silver bin- kitchen scraps.
Hmmm.
You could also have a green bin, but have to pay for that. Thankfully, we have end of terrace house and can hide the bins behind the bushes at side of house.
Complain to your council and tell them there are better ways of doing it. If my council has one wheelie bin for ALL recyclables (including glass, paper, cardboard, shredded paper, all plastics, textiles etc.) then yours can too.
It's no help to you, but I heard on the TV news that in furure, before planning approval is given, any new-build property will be required to have a bins storage area.
