The green side of a sponge thingy.
The only thing I have tried, Boxy, is to get the iron really hot then an old piece of cloth over the edge of the ironing board and scrape the iron firmly up and down the edge.
Sticky stuff remover may work too..on a cold iron...x

I've got a green thingy, zacs, I'll give it a go.

What about prioprietary gunge remover, the sort you can use to clean your hand-iron soleplate?
I've heard Canestan is good for that Boxy.

Bleugh zacs, I've got some cat acne cream, would that do?
Ahh, give it a whirl. What's to lose?
Do a proper job with a Brio pad.
Boxy...don't use anything rough...don't want to snag your tights when you're putting the creases down them....... ;-)

I can't. TWR - the top surface of the flat iron is smooth metal. Brillo will scratch, then I won't be able to iron the delicates!

LOL gness :-)
I`ve used the iron sole plate cleaners that you buy in Robert Dyas etc. They`re mainly designed for burnt-on fabric but they did get every mark off. They don`t scratch, either. I wouldn`t bother with Sticky Stuff remover - I bought some from Aldi on offer which is just as well as it`s £4+ in Lakeland and it was useless so it went straight in the bin.
that might be a bit extreme, 237SJ, I've not tried Sticky Stuff Remover on an iron, but in other walks of life I've found it works very well doing what it says on the tube.
Maybe it was a different product jno. The one I had was in a spray can. I tried to get the residue of some labels of jam jars (a simple job). I sprayed it on, it stank of solvent, and then set hard. It didn`t do anything at all. I`m glad I only paid £2.69 in Aldi for it.

I tend to use nail varnish removal to get labels off....
the Lakeland stuff you just squeeze through a hole in the top of the plastic bottle and it's fine for jam jar labels and the like. Might work on irons (when cold), but no promises.
I have a fast press iron which I think is the same as you are talking about. I use the cream for ordinary hand held irons, it takes quite a lot for the whole surface but works brilliantly.
Very, very fine wire wool, not Brillo pad. It gets it off in no time and also has the added effect of polishing the iron too so makes it smoother to glide through the ironing.
What's an iron?

Thank you all!

LOL grasscarp, I would say the same, but we're going to a wedding this afternoon - it's the full Highland gear for the males of the family so nibble's dress shirt needed a good flattening!
