Heating Not Coming On
9 Answers
Hoping one of you can help me. My gas Central heating doesn't appear to be working. I hadn't been using it at all until a few days ago when I set the timer to come on for an hour every morning and evening, along with the hot water. Last night and this morning I wanted it on after the time ended so pressed the override button and got nothing. Then I switched it to just 'on' rather than just the timer and still nothing. The light is on the panel but nothing's happening.
The radiators don't feel like they were on this morning and now I'm not certain it had actually come on when I started using it a few days ago.
Any simple suggestions? I really can't afford to get a plumber out.

Ours occassionally loses pressure, shows a red light and stops heating the water. We have a short flexible pipe joining two small taps below the boiler which allow repressurisation and away it goes again.
Hope it's something as simple as that.

Thermostats up pretty high.
It seems to be working with the timer changed which is fine for now but I don't understand why it won't come on with overide or when it's switched to being permanently on. I don't want it running on the timer settings for ages because that means the hot water will be on all that time too.

If it's working on your present settings, Evian, then we can assume the circulating pump is running ok.
If it simply refuses to run from override or "permanently on", then it would suggest a fault either in the control unit or the circuit board.
Either way, I'm afraid there's nothing that you can do to fix it. I think you may need the repairman ;o(

Thanks The Builder. It may be something that's covered by my landlord but I'm paranoid it's because of something I've done wrong (not sure what) which would mean I'd have to fork out. I'll have to get it figured out though or I'll just end up with an astronomical gas bill. I'll give them a call this week.
