Flue From A Utility Room Condensing Boiler

Can the flue from a utility room condensing boiler be enclosed in a "dummy" cupboard?

I'm not sure what you mean - my flue comes straight from the top of the boiler out into the open air?

My condensing boiler is in the utility room. The flue rises vertically (about 5 feet) from the top of the boiler before going through to the roof. I want to enclose the pipe in a false cupboard.

Should be ok, so long as its still venting outside.

No expert but when I had a boiler fitted into my bathroom I was informed I was legally obliged to have it in a cupboard which was locked so one could not touch it whilst in the bath. So I expect the answer is that it would be fine to box it in.

Perfectly Ok to do that, Nog. Just make sure nothing flammable is within 50mm of the flue.

It's also essential to have it either demountable (for inspection), or at least have access doors/hatches. Any servicing guy would have to be able to see it clearly.

^^^ on further thought, Noggers.............. that may not apply to you. I was assuming a double skin insulated fluepipe.

If you have a single skin flue, then combustible materials must be three times the diameter of the flue away from it.

For a 125mm diameter pipe....... closest position for combustible material would be 3 x 125 = 375mm (all round). Not terribly practical I'm afraid.
