One tends to cheapen the other.

In what way? gosh I am crap at interior design. :-(
If you like it that is all that matters.

I have 3 walls in the livingroom magnolia, and the chimney breast is a deep red. Many folk have visibly winced at the sight of it, but I don't care. I live here, not them.

So, unless the builder is planning on moving in, it's though tatas that he doesn't like it.
if you like it then that's it keep it!
Magnolia is cream based so I`m not sure I would put it with silver. I would use a cool neutral shade with silver but it`s not about what I like or what the builder likes. It`s about what you like.
Yes they do. If you like it enjoy it as a living room is what they are for living in.
Duck egg blue or dove grey with silver....
Bluurgh, sounds horrible, not two colours I would ever consider putting next to each other. However, it may look better than I imagine, and if you like it that's all that matters.
I would have used gold but it is your room so paint it whatever you like.
It will look far more striking if you break it up with something bold on the chimney breast.
Should have said' instead of silver'
Copper with magnolia..
If you like the silver I would have chosen stone instead of magnolia........
Because cream requires a strong complimentary colour to make it warm, not one with a weaker chromatic value such as white or silver and silver requires the same so you've combined two colours which need stronger colours to make them work.

If you like it, keep it, it really doesn't matter what the majority of other people think, it's your room.
are you happy with it ? because that's all that matters.
Gold or copper would have blended better but maybe you have started a new trend with magnolia and silver, I have seen Magnolia plants in silver pots look great. I was in a house where the colour scheme was silvery grey and navy would have never put the two together but it looked well, everyone to their own!!
Cream or magnolia goes with gold not silver...both are warm colours. White with silver not gold...rule of thumb IMO.
phleb; as a decorator of 20 odd years, my advice to customers has always been, "If you like it, then that's all that matters." The customer is the one who has to live with it. What happens if you take the advice of the builder and don't like the result?
Agree with murraymints, grey or aqua. But white would look good as well. Magnolia is so ....... yuk! But if you like it then have it.
