Am about to paint the hallway and stairs area. Does anyone recommend a particular device to get the bits done I can't reach and at least achieve a reasonable line between ceiling and wall.
Thanks

A ladder?
When I recently painted a hall/stairs/landing I used a roller on a telescopic pole and then taped a small brush to the pole to paint the picture rail and for cutting in all the bits in the stairwell. I don't do ladders, especially not over stairs so it was the only way to reach. It was a bit fiddly and you need a steady hand but to me any faff was worth not being up a ladder.
I've always used a ladder and a plank, as has been used for years, surprise surprise, H and E don't recommend this method though!

Am only 5'4'' with no-one else in the house so wouldn't feel that confident with the plank and ladder approach. telescopic pole or long handed brush sounds like it may be the way forwards.
Thanks
Take a look at the link below. I know it's for wall papering but the idea will be the same. Whatever you do, do not overreach as this is one of the most common ways to have an accident.

Shedman, I think I must be a girlie wimp, because those pictures terrify the life out of me!

Thanks for the explanation. Would rather do the job myself, just want to do it in a way that I feel happy and confident with.
Shed's link is excellent. Not so daunting as you would think. Most people's problems with those rigs, is the wobble factor ;o(

That's what makes them uncomfortable. You'd be surprised how safe and solid they are if you take the trouble to lash everything down....... even screw it to the stairs or bannister rail.

Also, with the regards to the ladders, am very cautious as work in a hospital and see the results of DIY accidents including recently an experienced decorator with several broken ribs having fallen off a ladder
Get a long handled brush as suggested by douglas ^^ The angled head will make for easier painting in awkward places and if it's Not long enough, do as I do and tape a piece of dowel rod or bamboo cane onto it. However, Do Not get one from Screwfix because it will cost you the addition of £5. delivery charge. You cold go to Amazon and get one at virtually half the price, along with free delivery.

Hans.
Telescopic roller from b&q....does my high bits fine !
Cutting in is difficult enough with the correct type of brush and a comfortable stance. Cutting in with a brush tied to a long pole sounds to be nearly impossible.
Jomi..my rates are very favourable..Lol...x
I have to agree with Jom about the brush on a stick. It's very difficult.

I have my own patented solution to this problem ........... paint the walls the same colour the ceiling. No cutting-in ;o)
A decorator friend uses a wooden ladder, and simply screws a length of 36mm x 63mm wall stud onto the bottom of one leg to extend it, so that the ladder stands vertically on the stairs.
