Am about to paint the hallway and stairs area. Does anyone recommend a particular device to get the bits done I can't reach and at least achieve a reasonable line between ceiling and wall.
Thanks

lol @ Hopkirk. okay then GAPI.
The simplest solution is to paint the ceiling the same colour as the walls - then there's no problem about keeping a steady line when cutting in.

Thanks to all for advice, don't think I can quite face an all one colour hallway, so will be stretching on my stepladder with some kind of long-handled brush. We do have a local Screwfix, but will have a look round the DIY stores as well.
Shed's link is ok if the circumstances you are working in apply. When I was a child the house we were in had a landing and rail which meant one could look over the rail down the stairs, and this was invaluable in setting up something stable. A house I now have is narrow, has a circular turn at the top which is unsuitable to placing any sort of ladder and enclosed. I have already had a combi type ladder fall away from under me because I'd not checked all I thought I had. And now up in "platform mode" it barely fits widthwise and when up just give one a level just the height of the top stair anyway ! Near useless. So the only alternative I can see is to try to find something else to balance on top, which has to be very risky. I'm unsure how one is expected to decorate it. No wonder the last owners put in that dodgy claustrophobic false ceiling. Meanwhile I'm still wondering how to tackle it safely.

Oldgeezer, I'm in an old Victorian end terrace house with very steep stairs (people who come round hate coming up my stairs).
The house was subject to some very interesting decorating by its previous owners, including papering over a missing brick.
I'm surprised they found the missing brick in order to paper over it !

To be honest, they just kept going with the wallpaper (layer upon layer), and the plaster fell off as soon as it was removed
O_G tsk, tsk.
