When I wash a large flower vase that we have I always use cool water. There is also a difference between putting glass in cool water and heating it (as in a dishwasher) and plunging into hot water.
If the glass vase is made from thick glass then there's no way I would chance pouring hot water into it.

bhg I do it all the time. I struggle to open jam jars, pickle jars and every other jar you can think of. The only way I can open them is to run them under the hot tap for a few seconds and lo and behold they open easily. And when I wash up I plunge crystal glasses, thick glass tumblers, and delicate etched wine glasses into hot water with no problems. And the same goes for all my vases. I obviously wouldn't pour boiling water on them. Anyway, this is my last post on here as this is in danger of getting daft. Bye for now BHG. Sorry for highjacking your thread Rob.
