Annoying Phone Calls

Not really a question but I have started saying 'Hello', 'Hello' regardless of what they say, constantly. You may have to say it twenty times but I can almost guarantee that they won't phone back.

Even with Caller ID display it is hard to vet calls because Caller ID can be spoofed. Obviously don't answer 0843 numbers. In my experience it is best to stay silent. Listen for "call centre" background noise or "the total silence of a computer dialer". They usually drop the call. Eventually their autodialers will learn that it is a broken number. Friends and...

Not sure what the solution is. The authorities must be working on it. Meantime, if no one aswers within 2sec - hang up, if an Asian accent answers - hang up.
I tend to ask who's calling, then make out I'm going to fetch the person they want, even if it's for me, place the phone down on the table and then carry on with watching TV, check the phone after a few minutes, they usually hang up...which means it's a failure for the company...if you hang up it isn't considered just expected
