I replaced my ancient mains strimmer with a battery version. It's useless, but I do like the blades it uses (much easier than reloading string). Does anyone know of a mains strimmer that uses blades?

At least here in the U.S., one can buy universal replacement heads for almost all sting trimmers. I've a Stihl and use on with relpaceable blades (3). One can buy the replacement blades by the package at a reasonable price.

The blades don't last quite as long as I'd expected, but that, generally, is due to using the blades tightly agains the base of stone walls tp get all the weeds and grass cut closely.

I use this one: http://www.cmdproducts.com/Products.html
Like many folks, I too got fed up with reloading the cord in the strimmer head and all the problems that come with it.
While browsing in B & Q I came across a little device similar or the same as the one that Clanad recommends, as a result I can now just plug in pre-cut lengths of cord, which saves a heck of a lot off hassle.
I've been using this system for a few years now, so I hope it is still available.
Good luck.....Chip.
technicaly its a brush cutter rather than a strimmer that uses blades

I've seen the pre-cut lengths of cord being used on petrol strimmers and they're even better than the plastic blades but I didn't know you could adapt an electric one to take the pre-cut length. I'll give B&Q a visit, thanks Chip.
