How do I un do those funny star shaped scrwes on my iron (not philips or flat headed touch them). Are these new screws another capatilist ploy to make me buy a new iron rather than change the lead?

They are known as Torx headed screws and you can get drivers to fit them from any tool shop/ car spares place. As to whether they are a capitalist ploy or simply there to stop those who don't know what they're doing (not aimed at you :-)) from electrocuting themselves is another matter. It seems that they aren't annoying enough though as the latest I have come across is a 'phillips' type head that is shaped like a 'Y'

My local market (Crewe) has a tool stall on Saturdays which sells sets of "security" hex-drive bits for 2.99.   This set includes Fitzer's Y-shaped Phillips type.  I'm sure they must be available everywhere, but usually quite a bit more expensive.  My worst problem was on a commercial microwave which was a shallow domed head with three small recesses.  The tool was priced at over 40!!!  Definitely a con.
