fitting an outside light
I recently went to replace my neighbours outside light, because it was broken. The cable going to this has FOUR wires in it, but the new outside light only has 3 connectors (live, earth and neutral). The cable does have a switch in the house, and assume that the extra wire is something to do with the switching, but don't know how to wire it up to the 3 terminals. Any advice? Every combination I've tried doesn't work. I think I have to add another terminal to the block supplied and add another wire to create the link for the switching but don't know how.

Technically as this is outside the house it does come under Part P of building regs and should be done by an electrician.
