How secure is any information on papers we want to recycle. Is it necessary to remove names and addresses and any other secure information or does it all just get dumped somewhere where this information could not be read?

I always shred any papers with sensitive information on them. Don't think recycling centres are 'security' minded.

I shred anything that has address's on, especially my own.
I shred them without even thinking about it.

Not secure in the slightest...why would it be? Anyone who just dumps this "sensitive" material in a bin (recycling or otherwise) is inviting trouble of one sort or another.

Recycling has never claimed to be secure. Never put anything in if you don't want to risk it being read or re-used.

I don't have a shredder so I dump mine in a bucket and turn them into paper mache.

you can get a rubber stamp with ink pad in order to obliterate personal details.

X-cut shredder for anything with names, numbers etc.

Mine just goes in the bin, I assume people have got better things to do with their time than sort through my rubbish. If I lived in a city I may think differently.

I have a card and a CD shredder for anything that concerns me.

I shred everything with our names on and any other confidential information. I then put the shredding in my garden compost bins. It makes an excellent addition to the composted garden material

Apparently most recycling centers don't like shredded paper as it clogs the machines.I think that's their hard luck,if papers have got anything on that could lead back to us it goes through the shredder.

We shred everything. There are many really cheap shredders on the market nowadays.

I should have agreed with mally earlier and said that I rip off the address's and any info important, then chuck in the shredder as my shredder would fill up too quickly. Glad i dont empty mine very often.

I tear details off and then tear into smaller pieces and then put in with my compost stuff

I used to shred sensitive papers but as paddywak said recycling centres don't like it. They used to have a devoted bin for this paper but it was removed. They seem to make recycling more awkward every day, now whenever a lorry goes in to deliver or collect skips the entire site is closed off to the public. We now wait outside for up to 3/4 hour or have a double journey.
