Typical 1960s semi with shared chimney. Chimney needs repointing and the ridge tiles rebedding.

As I have no idea I'd be grateful for a very rough estimate.

It cost me £60 to have a ridge tile replaced by a handyman. Pointing is a very tedious job, taking longer than you would expect, so I would guess a few hundred pounds. You'll have a better chance getting a handyman to do it than a builder - too small a job for them to be bothered with.

Thanks, bhg
Yes, handyman or builder, hc.

It's the access that's the problem. These days, scaffolding is usually needed. That may add £500 to the bill.

That's more than the cost of the job (£300-400)

It could safely be done with a tower and roof ladders, but that would mean getting someone in who is "old school".

How rude I am! Sorry, BM, I read your answer yesterday on my smartphone whilst I had visitors and meant to thank you.

Thank you for your help. I didn't know if it would cost low hundreds or £2k or more.

I've had the first quote, £340 including replacing 1 broken tile, so you was spot on, The Builder.
