Gas - heats up more quickly and is cheaper per kw/h
Depends when in the day you cook - gas generally costs around 6p per Kilowatt hour (KWh) and electricity around 12p per KWh, so basically, it is cheaper to cook using mains gas.

I prefer Aga though.
Definitely gas. You're simply converting fuel to heat, whereas the alternative is to convert fuel to electricity and then to heat, which costs far more.
Not sure what is cheaper, but gas is much easier. Instant heat and ability to 'kill' the heat when needed.
for pan cooking, gas is more controllable as well.
Gas.

My village has no gas supply, hence I use electricity, and I'm used to that. However, I'm moving soon to a house where I have the choice. Don't know what to choose really.

DT, why do you prefer an Aga?
I prefer gas rings and an electric oven (given the choice).
I'd go for a dual fuel - electric ovens (more even heat) and a gas hob (more controllable).

An Aga is nice if you have a cat that needs keeping warm ...
Choose gas - you'll love it!
We have duel fuel, gas hobs and an electric oven. Dunno which is most economical though.
so versatile, naomi....the one here is over 50 years old, water heated, two ovens, two major rings and does the roasting and a lot of the ring cooking. About £65 a month plus an annual service and a chimney flue clean.
Question Author
I had gas in my last house and it is more controllable, but ceramic hobs are clean.

DT, isn't it a lot of faffing about though? Far easier to flick a switch surely?
The only downside of an AGA is the cost.
Aren't Aga's hot in the summer though?
Not really.....you can turn them up and down.....Not that much faffing around needed.

LPG is an alternative for those who don't have mains gas..
I would probably go electric oven, gas rings. Agas are fine if already installed....
oh so its a gas aga, not a solid fuel one?
