Hot Water Only Warm
34 Answers
I had the hot water and a bit of heat on this morning getting up and the hot water was only luke warm....that was a fun shower!!
I set it to come on before I got home, hot water only, to test it and I've just tried it again and again it's only going mildly luke warm.
I've clicked it on to check the pilot light and that is coming on and the boiler seems to be firing up fine.
Had the tank level and overflow pipe fixed a couple of weeks ago after a leak but it's been ok since then save the overflow going a lot which is going to be sorted.
Is there anything I can do to try and get the water hot again?

Interestingly though, it switches on when put to "on" but nothing seems to happen when put on to "once". That usually works as I use that setting a lot on the weekends.
The other temperature things are up in the boiler cupboard and nobody has been into there, I live alone and I've not opened it for a while now.
Will go check and see if it's worked once it's had a chance to run for a bit.

I'm not very mobile anyway and hoping not to have to try and reach anything, especially in the boiler cupboard, might have to ask one of the neighbours to help if so.
It's got all spare towels and bed linen and such in so hoping not to have to decamp all that, keeping everything crossed it's heating up now!
Needless to say I've not had a good hair day today :) At least the heating came on this morning though so my cold shower wasn't in too cold a room.

I don't think it's a combi as there is a tank in the bedroom and one in the roof. It's a Baxi one. Old though, apparently old even for the age of the house (about 20 years I think).
I can't have heating on without the hot water on with this new timer they put on last year if that makes a difference. Will go see if I can find something more specific.

Are you saying the cupboard with the boiler in is stuffed with all that lot? How does air reach the burners, via an air intake through the outside wall?

Oh, I thought it just heated one cycle or something so didn't carry on and on...oops! I used it for a brief heat up for a shower and general hot water at the weekends! It always usually comes on though, weird!
It's not stuffed but quite a bit in there. Didn't know it had to do that! It's on an adjoining wall and not near an outdoor wall, am I thinking of the wrong thing? The big water bank is in the loft.
The actual boiler itself is in the kitchen and that is on an outside wall if that's what you mean? I assume that's where it gets air in from?

Ah, yes I have three periods set, although the last one is very brief and right after the second one as I don't need three separate ones with it just being me.
When I use the "once" option on the weekend the timer isn't set to anything, I only set it when I have to be up early first thing, mostly work days, so I have some water (and a bit of heat if cold, as I get up very early) for a shower first thing.
