What's This Plant?

It's low, about 1' high, and covers with a mass of star shaped blue flowers. It seems to grow anywhere and might be something I could manage.

That's narrowed it down to about 20 possibilities, size of flower, number of petals, shape of leaf..all the usual plant characterisics would help identify it.

The 6 petals on the flowers are more pointed.

If that is the flower beware it will try and smother other plants and take over

I have it in my garden Sandy. As mentioned by birdfeeder you have to be careful it doesn't smother other plants. I prune it right back after it has flowered and also split the plants to cover other bare areas in the garden

It doesn’t stand a chance in my garden...it is a tortoise favourite and they will eat it down to the root!

Wolfgang, is your garden infested with tortoises? I'd thought you lived somewhere in the UK.

I have got two and where munching the plants they like are concerned, its definitely an infestation although one I would not be without :)

Could it be alkanet ? It is so easy to grow that many gardeners regard it as a bit of a weed. But it is awfully pretty.

Blue star creeper (Pratia pedunculate) is flowering in my garden at the moment.
Good ground cover plant. It can have 5 or 6 petals.
