i don’t use slugit because it contains metaldehyde which lingers in the soil. There is a new version of slug pellet based on ferric phosphate which I find work well. To be safe you need to use them in tiny amounts, no more than 4 in a 50 litre tub, one in a flowerpot. My adult dogs ignore them but if I had a puppy I wouldn’t use them. Here’s one link but if you google ferric phosphate slug pellets, there are loads of brands

If your dogs are of the molting kind and you don't want to risk chemical warfare in your garden, then the dogs might hold the answer.
This year, I took a tip from a gardening magazine and used some groomed-out dog fur, which acts as a deterrent, if you use it as a mulch around your prized plants. It also acts as a fertilizer, adding nitrogen as it breaks down.
Some think it sounds too good to be true, but its protected many of my plants when I tried it, it seems slugs just do a U turn rather than trying to transverse it.
