Is dogwood plant suitable for large patio pot I have seen some nice coloured ones which would brighten the winter garden.

There are plenty of relevant threads on the web. The short answer to your question appears to be 'Yes' but you need to be aware that there are lots of types of dogwood and some are better suited to being grown in pots than others.

Some dogwoods would be suitable for large patio containers and should grow happily for many years.
Go for Cornus alba Sibirica.
Prune hard in early spring for the colourful winter stems.

Yes is the answer but you'll need to keep it well watered during summer and give it a fortnightly liquid feed too. Every 3 years (in spring), remove it from its pot, remove a third of the roots and old compost and replace with new compost.

Cornus alba 'elegentissima' would be my choice as you get beautiful varigated foliage in summer.
