de-shrinking cardigan?

I accidentally put a hand-wash only cardigan in at 40 degrees!!!


I think it's cashmere blend, and one of my favourites. Is there any way at all to de-shrink it?

I did this once with a fave wooly jumper.  I couldn't get it back to its former state (lack of patience), but you could try slowly stretching it.  Problem is that you need to do it evenly all over.  I tried stretch-ironing mine too, but it just went really flat.

we have had this question before. Someone posted that the stuff to use is borax but I don't remember the details

If it's gone thick or matted there won't be anything you can do.  Otherwise, you could try soaking it in warm water with lots of fabric softener for five minutes, give it a quick, gentle spin & then gently pull it out to shape on a flat surface.

To salvage something from the situation - you can make a cushion cover from the shrunken remains.
