Someone has taken to throwing their cigar butts into our garden . We collected about half a dozen of them last week and I've just picked another one up today.
Any ideas as to how we can deter this so-and-so without descending to Victor Meldrew levels?
Our garden has quite a high stone wall around it, then there is a wrought iron gate. Most of the butts were chucked over the wall, but today's find had been thrown through the gate.
Put a large notice up on the wall where you think that they are being tossed over, an enlarged cut-out picture of Fidel Castro on it and the message, "Smoking cigars kills you."
Collect them all in a clear plastic bag, then display them on a hook or something similar on the wall next to where they have been thrown over. Put a notice on the bag to the effect that they have been found and see if they get taken away.
There is a pavement on the other side of the wall....we live on a corner between a fairly busy street and a much quieter one
I am assuming that it is someone who is walking up the busy road and has come to the end of his cigar just as he comes round the corner.
We have lived here for about 30 years and this has only been happening for the last few weeks. Cannot think of any new neighbours moving in in this time and do not like to think that any of the neighbours that are known to us would be so careless/thoughtless/annoying.
Aside from putting a stool out on the street corner, and sitting there with a 12 bore, I'm unsure there is a solution. Sometimes you just have to give up on the human race (or a portion of them at least).
Strangely enough we also had a problem with someone chucking dog poo bags over our wall. This was a few years ago . The council dog warden service were very sympathetic and installed a dog poo bucket just a wee bit up the street and put a couple of notices up about the fines for leaving dog poo about and the poo chucking stopped. I can only think that because our wall is so high (over 6 feet) people don't think that anyone has a garden that they tend over the other side of it.
Throwing the cigar butt through the gate on to our path was a bit much, though.
Why would anyone think it was OK to do that?
