Sealant For Caravan Window
4 Answers
I've replaced the 50mm wide rubber seal on my touring caravan window this weekend. I'm left with a straight butt joint where the two ends of the rubber seal meet and I need to seal that joint using some type of sealant that could be applied via a sealant gun.
I'd like some advice on the best type of sealant to use. Would standard builders silicone sealant do the job if I can get it in black? What about this business of high modulus/low modulus?
I'm not really thinking of aquarium sealant or anything like that, but I've no real experience of sealing a rubber joint like this.
The underside of the seal sits on an 25mm wide piece of softwood faced on both sides with 3-ply.
Thank you for your help.

One product I have often used when sealing the edges of 'Rubber roofs' is a sealant used with EDPM. It most definitely bonds to any surface it is applied to.
As a rule it is applied first and then compressed behind an edge trim.
If you went this route you would need to remove your seal and refit it, bedding it down on a bead of sealant.
