...as I need a new set of pans. I saw a set that I liked but it said not suitable for inductions hobs.
I don't know what am induction hob is. Is it just the top of an electric oven? In which case I shan't waste my money.

No not just the top of an 'ordinary' stove where the heat comes directly from flame ....and I think even from direct electricity ....it's a bit more involved than that.

I'd investigate a bit more before you made a purchase, even google should help :))

Thanks. I have googled it but all I get is adverts.
Copied from elsewhere:

Cookware for induction hobs must be made from magnetisable metal, such as cast iron or stainless steel. Pure copper or aluminium pans are not suitable for induction hobs, unless they incorporate encapsulated steel or iron bases.
Cast iron pans and any black metal or iron pans will work on an induction cooking surface. Stainless steel pans will work on an induction cooking surface if the base of the pan is a magnetic grade of stainless steel. If a magnet sticks well to the sole of the pan, it will work on an induction cooking surface.
Basically induction hobs are the ones where the whole hob is a flat piece of glass (usually black).
If you don't know what an induction hob is, you haven't got one. Don't worry about what pans to get. Just get the ones you like.
Induction hobs use a magnetic field to induce/generate electric currents in your pan, which heats it up. If the pan won't easily pass current it's not much use on the induction hob.
