I have six geraniums that I got from a car boot sale, they have no labels so how do I tell if they will survive the winter?

Not likely any geraniums will survive the winter if left outside... the first frosts usually kill them, You could trim them right back when they have finished flowering..or take cuttings and keep them indoors till next spring

Thanks roslyn, that means they will have to live in the garage, will I have to water them or will they just go dormant?

My mother never used to water her geraniums in the winter, and they did well, but she had green fingers. I have black thumbs, so I water mine. About half of them seem to survive in the garage - but remember, frost can penetrate the garage, so you may want to put them in a warmer place if frost is forecast, or wrap them in something.

Depends where you live Biccylova. I have three pots of them in my back garden and I leave them out all year round and they are now in their 4th year. They have flowered all summer long and are still flowering now. I do water them during the winter months though if necessary. I'm on the south coast.

You could some put some fleece or old net curtains over them keep them moist but not over watered it's not to late to take cuttings I just put them on window sill in a jam jar of water and pot on when roots start to show

If you mean Pelargoniums then the answers given are correct. However if you mean true Geraniums then they are as tough as old boots.

thanks everyone, yes they are geraniums, I went out and got some bags that fit over the plants and the pots so will use them and put them in the garage and hope for the best, thanks for the advise on cuttings Tony v, I have just done that and am most interested to see if it works for me.
