Well the best way is expensive but has many benefits and pays for itself in the long run. Install a water softener. Machines that use water last longer, laundry is softer and needs less detergent, baths and showers are lovely. They are very cheap to run and last for ages. My first one lasted for 25 years and only needed replacing because the technology had moved on and spares were no longer available.

i checked out Amazon and they are average 10 quid for ten treatments, do they go in the machine along with the wash or in the drawer compartment.
Emmie, all the supermarkets sell it in the washing powder aisle, its in a green bag and is cheap. I never use comfort or the like now either, and I live in a very hard water area
