Fence Top Trellis

We want to put some trellis on our fence-top to deter burglars.

The diagonal stuff looks better from that point of view (harder to climb), but are there any advantages to using ordinary square trellis?

From what I've seen, the square stuff is stronger and more durable, so I would opt for that, then grow something thorny over it, like a rambling rose or pyracantha.

I like the square stuff better anyway so I'd put that up.
