We’ve used the same plumber for about three years and he’s always done a good job. But the last job I thought he’d overcharged a tad. So I’ve just txt him to quote for replacing an existing hallway radiator with a brand new one. It’s a small radiator - 90cm wide. He’s quoted me £180 plus parts. Just seems an awful lot.

You might not want to put too much faith in Check A Trade either, save compounding your troubles.

Maybe he doesn’t want the job for some reason, and has given you what you think is a high price, so that you will get someone else. Putting the decision on you, rather than him saying he can’t do it.

Homer's post says it all really. It depends on whether or not the system has to be drained and re-filled. Extenders should do the job... but who knows?

Quoting is practically impossible for this sort of job. It may well be a straight swap... but ......
An hourly rate is a much better way. That way, it's fair for everyone.

We used our regular guy in the end. We had three quotes all within £10 of his price. Job took him three hours as our house has three floors and water tank and boiler are on top floor .
