Anyone know if taping the skirting boards before painting walls is a good idea?

I would......or hold a piece of card on the skirting board....but good masking tape is best for a crisp line.....

If you decide to use masking tape then I would buy the cheap stuff as it comes off easily. I often use it especially on thick carpets next to skirting boards so that no paint gets on carpet and it comes off easy afterwards

I’d use low tack Frog tape. We’ve just used it in my daughters bedroom and it came off the walls with no paint stuck on it.

Rocky the cheap stuff is similar to the low tack you mention but a lot cheaper. I tried it a while back and found it quite good as it doesn't take any paint off just like the expensive stuff.
