Moving House Essentials

Count down begins. I am living in box and packing tape hell.

Get the keys at the weekend - my friend and I will be over at the new place to give it the once over and put up curtains etc prior to me moving in on Monday and Mr BM a month later. What do I need to take with me? Have I missed anything off the essentials list?

The washing line was still there on Sat and the property is now empty Georgiesmum. It's not in a great place - right up against a laurel hedge so that will have to be moved.

Bought oven cleaner yesterday so that's in the box now. I'm going out later to buy the other bits and pieces.

Everything seems to be pretty much covered but if you're going to get grubby with all that cleaning, how about a change of clothes for going to the pub for lunch?

If the house is a tad 'grubby', then a box of these can be useful as well as the usual Marigolds - you can use/bin as you go along

Antibacterial gel and antiseptic cream. Hand cream. Hair ties or something else to keep your hair up when cleaning etc... Maybe some of those push light things, as well as a torch, to see in any darker corners or cupboards when cleaning/stocking.

Drain unblockers, just in case you find that there is yucky stuff in the plugholes.

I'll second about the latex gloves, much easier to work in than larger looser marigolds for general cleaning.

Spare smoke alarm batteries and something which will reach them to check they are working, carbon monoxide detector.

Spare batteries for anything else like a torch, lamp, clock etc...

wipes...both disinfectant handwipes and plain baby wipes. If you don't like to use wipes because they aren't ecological then old really clean rags and a bottle of water.

You said you will be putting up curtains - has anyone suggested yet a pair of steps - kitchen ones or taller?

Crikey, I only went out for half an hour!

I wont need steps - the windows are all very low. Even those who are "vertically challenged" like me can reach the curtain rails. It is actually a hobbit house really. Mr BM has to duck between the living room and dining room (he is SO going to forget one day and end up with a flattened forehead).

Clean clothes is an excellent idea Foxlee - it is quite a nice pub and I wouldnt want to go in there looking like a tramp.

Latex gloves now ordered.

Woofgang, I'm not a fan of any wipes - I've got a nice big pile of old rags though.

Eve - you've said loads of things I didnt think of.

Minty - of course! Must keep our blood sugar levels up, purely medicinal. lol

Voltage - lol. Fair point. But this is all stuff that will be moved in in any event. At least once I've taken it over there, I wont need to bring most of it back. I can think of nothing worse than wanting to crack on and get it done and find we've not got something we really need. And it is in the back end of beyond.
