Have Just Had Upvc Windows

fitted (not white. a tasteful brown) but have made a big mistake. They all open wide enough for Burglar Bill and his whole gang to walk in :( Someone has told me there is fitting to make windows open just a few inches, but don't know what they're called, so don't know what to look for.
What if it's a scorchio summer and I can't have my bedroom window open at night?

Baths, apart from opening outwards, don't they open partially from the top by turning the handle upwards and pulling towards you?

OK, suggest you contact the fitter and tell them of your concerns re safety.They should be able to advise you on best course of action.

Mine open like doors which is a big opening on my bay windows. Also, as Danny says, they open from the top inwards. Have you tried moving the handle in different positions as there is two positions on mine - either straight up or to one side. Not very good explanation, sorry.

The window restrictor looks ok Baths, but be careful you do not infringe any condition of your guarantee by fitting extras.

At least I know what they're called, thanks Spath and everyone else.
Will probably have to get back to fitters, but am annoyed that he lied to me and said small top windows are illegal now.

Upstairs windows are often fitted with an escape route in mind in case of fire - he should have recommended limiters for them.

Baths, what is the cord on them made of.If it is something that can be cut, then you won't have the security you are looking for.
