Do these thermostats ever work? I have lived in about three houses now and it never seems to click the heating on or off you just use it as an on or off switch, or have I just been unlucky ??

hmm, i must say i have been using mine like that, mr boobesque said it works by tempreture but it has never worked that way, so maybe you arent just unlucky!

Yes they do work ''usually'' but the older ones were not very accurate and had a big temperature difference between the on and off values, so much so that your room could vary from cool (wear a jumper) to hot (wear shorts) in each cycle and most people don't really like that much variation in the room temperature, even if is supposed to be good for your body systems.

There is another point about them in that they have something call an accelerator connection, which was a fiddle to try around the above mentioned variation, these required three wires to connect not two like a normal switch and many people don't understand how they work and connect them wrongly and then the problem is even worse.

Mine doesn't work
I don't think mine does. It still 'clicks' but it doesn't have any effect on the boiler's operation - but this is probably down to the fact that it's a combi boiler and the heating on on/off operation is controlled from the boiler itself?
better off having individual thermostats on rads
