Following our recent burgled shed incident, local old Bill says a noisy door alarm might help.
Any recommendations? The shed is 35 metres from the flat, so we need some sort of remote off switch - not wanting to traipse down the dark garden at 2 a.m.
No experience, but think you'll be popular with the neighbours. Maybe look for one that turns the noise off after a short while and doesn't retrigger unless there's further activity ?
Mind you, the best one would ring in the old Bill's cop shop and not at the shed. Let them deal with it ;-) (Maybe flashing lights at the shed to scare folk off ?)
If you have mains electricity in the shed you could wire-up a PIR to an alarm instead of/as well as a light. With the PIR inside you could probably get it to trigger if anyone opens the door and steps inside. You can get solar operated PIRs with the photo cell remote from the light, so you could have the charger outside and the sensor inside but I'm not sure there would be enough power for a siren.
The kind local police (now there's a phrase I didn't think I'd type) brought round a couple of window alarms (free!), which work if you bash the glass fairly hard. No remote switching, unfortunately, so wouldn't do for the shed, and would drive the neighbours mad. We don't want to upset the neighbours, so we're still looking!
A friend of ours parks her car on her driveway near to the house each night. She puts her now unused baby alarm in the car so she will hear anyone who tries to mess about with it. The car is far enough back from the pavement that it won't pick up people passing by. The other half of it is in their bedroom. Laughed when she told me but why not? You'd hear anyone trying to get in without disturbing he neighbours. Have never used one so don't the range they cover.
My mate concocted something using a tin of Swarfega,,ball bearings..fertilizer..detonator..trip wire and a 12v battery...didn't end well...his missus went into the shed for the shovel to clear some snow!!
