TTT don't bother they may look OK but unless you are an expert could make you sick or even worse.

that's why I'm asking.
Do the gills underneath look the normal mushroom brown colour?

I think you have to be able to see the underside of the cap to be sure.
I doubt you'll find many experts on AB and even if you did would trust them?

I'd look for a more specialist site. They look like perfectly edible mushrooms to me but I still wouldn't dare.
“There is no fool-proof test that can be used for all mushrooms. Those species of mushrooms that are edible are known to be edible because someone at one time had tried it and discovered it to be safe to eat.” —University of Hawaii
I wouldn't chance it. If you want a handful of mushrooms go and buy them.
I wonder who discovered the magic ones and how they remembered which ones they ate?

ok thanks all I'll check under. TBH the dogs have probably peed on them by now anyway!
You really need an expert, who is standing next to you.
They're obviously edible since someone has already had a nibble on the third one from the right...But, on the other hand, why did they not finish it?...Oh well.
//the dogs have probably peed on them by now anyway!//

Or,if they've done the other they could be edible 'shiitake'

Boooooooom!
They look like edible ones, but so do a few amanitas which are dealy. The only mushroom I'd confidently pick and eat is the parasol, because it's very large and distinctive.
I'm glad you've decided not to chance them TTT, you really do need to be 100% sure about fungi!
I almost picked some from my lawn to eat, and on closer inspection they turned out to be (potentially poisonous) yellow stainers.
Check out some demo/s on youtube for yellow stainers for an example.I think you'l be surprised how innocent they look and how ill they can make you!
all mushrooms are edible....some are only edible once.
more seriously I have never fancied foraged mushrooms since I read about how to do it and it said that you should dump them in salted water before cooking to get the insects out. I know that the mushrooms/toadstools which grow in my garden are much enjoyed by all kinds of wildlife.
You could join this group and ask on there, there are some extremely knowledgeable people there.

Of course there is a foolproof test. Have a couple of plates full, then sit back and wait. If you find yourself dead, they were poisonous. If just very ill, probably give them a miss next time, eh ? Simples.
