Is This Laurel

Strange 30cms flower with devine scent. The leaves look like laurel but is it?

I think its a type of magnolia (or so I was told in Bushy Park yesterday)

Just goodled the name. Magnolia Grandiflora I think and yes, it did smell divine.

Is it blooming at the moment, Tambo ?
Heres a simple test for magnolia grandiflora aka bullbay - Take a petal and place it on the pavement, step on it and you should see a clear imprint of the sole of your shoe.
It should also have a lemony scent and the flowers can be 10"s across.
