Inefficient Toasting.
46 Answers
I have a 2-slice toaster but usually only toast one slice - egg on toast for breakfast or cheese on toast for a snack. So half the electricity used to toast my single slice is wasted! The only single slice toaster I have found is the Russell Hobbs 24200 at £39 (quite expensive).
Why can't the makers simply put a switch on a 2 slice toaster to select one or both slots? Maybe someone does - anyone know?

Yes I quite agree, bobbin. Toast should never be eaten hot. But the problem with your idea is storing the unused slice. I find that toast goes very brittle if kept for any length of time.
Edit: This shows what we have been reduced to: discussing toasters and how to store unused toast! :-)

Buy yourself a Sage toaster. I have a four slice model. You can toast on one side of the bread only if you wish- the setting is intended for crumpets etc. It has wide slots. You don't push the toast in, you just press a button and it takes the bread slowly into the toaster itself. It also has a facility where you can check toasting progress by ejecting the toast slowly allowing you enough time to check progress and then taking the toast back in again. And it can toast at the press of a button for a further 10 seconds.
Its all done via buttons. My model cost around 150 quid so they aren't cheap but there is a two slice model and the price has come down.

Theland, it's nothing to do with more money than sense. Ask the thousands of people every year who buy Dualit toasters. There's such a thing as reliability and not having to put up with cheap and nasty toasters that are not fit for purpose, unreliable and fit only for the local tip within a few years.
Personally, I've had enough of putting up with such crap.
