Inefficient Toasting.
46 Answers
I have a 2-slice toaster but usually only toast one slice - egg on toast for breakfast or cheese on toast for a snack. So half the electricity used to toast my single slice is wasted! The only single slice toaster I have found is the Russell Hobbs 24200 at £39 (quite expensive).
Why can't the makers simply put a switch on a 2 slice toaster to select one or both slots? Maybe someone does - anyone know?

Dave.. You need to lighten up and stop worrying.
Okay.. you did pay well over the odds for your toaster. There was a point in time where that toaster cost nearly £40 .. unfortunately you happened to buy it then. As a rule its a £25 toaster.
As for your wasting electricity.. It is an 820watt toaster. Therefore in the 2 minutes it takes to do your toast, it costs less than 1p to operate.
You will be getting yourself a bad name, trying to save 1/2p.

I can't find a 2 slice Dualit toaster that has the option to heat only one side.
davebro, that simple switch adds cost to the toaster and most people would not be prepared to pay the extra. It's a competitive market.
With my toaster (most toasters?) 2 elements are used to toast one slice of bread and 3 to toast 2. That one wasted element is not worth worrying about
