After some recent great feedback re siting a Sparrow nest box so now am asking similar about a Robin's box. I have a large trio of Pyracantha (Firethorn )trained against a South facing wall. There is plenty of deth to put a Robin's box within the shrubs but would it be ok being it would be facing South? Hope so as the situation looks ideal Chris

If I was faced with the same problem and couldn't site the box east or north, then go for deep shade and site it well back and away from the feeders and predators.
The idea is to keep the chicks from being cooked alive in the hot sun.
So many people put them in the wrong place. It's good to see people asking the question and making sure they get it right.
you might have wrens nest in it as I did a few years ago. It helped having a stream running along the bottom of the garden.
Despite the cover, I would still be reluctant to site the box in a south facing situation. Although, to be honest, the birds will probably make their own decision as to whether its suitable. If it really is the only option then give it a go burying it as deeply as you can in the shrub.
