Drench-Type Shower Heads

Mrs JtH and I are having a new shower fitted.
We are considering buying a shower unit which has both an overhead drench and a regular shower head/hose fixed to a rise and fall pole.

Every Drench head we have seen appears to be set about 12 inches away from the wall (this is the centre of the shower). This seems awfully close......I don't want to stand in a shower with my bosom in contact with cold shiny metalwork so that my head is underneath the drencher.

As I have not been able to go and stand underneath one in a showroom, can anyone confirm whether my perception is incorrect, and that drench-showers are a 'ggod thing'. Many thanks.

The centre of ours is 18 inches from the wall - and my sticky-out-bits don't touch anything cold ...

... and I think that the combo drench/normal shower is just wonderful - get clean with the nozzle and then relax in the warm rain.

In shall have to go and physically stand under one and see where that puts me, physically and metaphorically.

You can get them which come straight out of the ceiling so you can have it where you want.

Well - I was trying to picture that shower hose dilemma but then changed my mind and went and made a cup of tea.

Dave. Don't forget the type of shower cubicle should be considered. Ours is a long and fairly wide open ended shower. In a smaller enclosed cubicle the drencher may have to be closer to the wall.

We have what you’re describing JTH, and ours is probably a bit more than 18” from the wall. It’s also over a bath and even taking into account the slight slope of the bath, there’s no issue with any of your bits pressing on the cold tiles.
Ours is run off the hot water system, which has a large hot water tank but we have found, when we have visitors (it’s in the main bathroom, we have an electric shower in the en suite) if long hair is washed and conditioned, or if a longer than normal (whatever normal means) shower is taken, then the hot water can run out, as a lot of water gushes through it. It’s not called drench for nothing :)
Personally, I wouldn’t have another, nice as they look.

I think we shall have to go and visit the Bathroom Store and have a proper look.

We are in a new house which has the overhead drench, as well as the handle one on a hose.

None of us ever turns on the drench.
