Since I got the new brown leather suite I had been swinging to terracotta/orange colours since I am sick of my mustard colours. I bought lovely tapestry cushion covers and have been looking to replace the beige rug with a terracotta rug which I viewed a few.
However the size of the rug that I even have at the moment and the size of the new rug doesn't "synchronise" with the one by two by three seater - ie you know - comes from the fireplace to the beginning of the 3 seater but doesn't go under the two seater.
I now have a notion that I may go for fitted carpet and am just round from my local carpet shop and have been quoted a price etc for a nice burnt orange speckled. Rather nice.
However I had wanted to keep the laminate floor down so that some day if I ever I get fed up with the carpet I can always lift it and go back to the laminate floor.
Anyway I wanted underlay of course and the fella has just told me the laminate would have to be lifted for the underlay and carpet BUT he could put the carpet over the laminate ie WITHOUT the underlay.
Sorry for being so long but I did want to explain a good bit. If the carpet goes over the laminate will it be Soft and comfortable enough or should I lift the laminate.
jj; are you sure that you won't later find that the new flooring doesn't go well with the house brickwork and you'll want to get a new house to match? :-)
Ginger - I'm treating to myself as I did get a half reduction of my rates - half in fact. So £50 a month multiplied by 7 equals £350.
I;m getting the carpet for £380 - that includes fitters and the fitters knowing they have to move the furniture. Not bad. I am actually quite poor LOL.
Pasta and Mamy - good suggestion but doing that - there just would be a little laminate left - so may as cover it all.
The ONLY thing I am a little worried about is the oul dog - not his hairs or anything but like in the beginning he was a little sick. But sure that could be wiped up if I see it quick enough. Ach YOLO - you only live once LOL
"jj seems to have stacks of cash and likes spending it, judging by previous posts!"
dunno if you meant that to sound rude, but it came out that way.
Why not, if you have it?
atheist - did you read the post properly - I am not looking for a rug this time - BEAUTIFUL FITTED CARPET - IF YOU PLEASE LOL - so fitted carpet shouldn't shift about.
Margo - I have a few rugs in my Amazon basket - they are nice so it will be either one of those or the fitted carpet. Just took this fitted carpet notion this few days - maybe having only one eye has affected my brain LOL
You might find you need to take a bit off the bottom of any doors which open into the room as they may 'snag' on the carpet if laid on top of the laminate. The carpet will undoubtedly wear quicker laid on a hard surface rather than a soft underlay.
Fitted carpets (I think these days) usually have "gripper" strips around the edges to hold them in place. The strips are nailed to the floor so would probably ruin the laminate anyway.
My flat had carpets laid on double-sided tape & the glue was a pain to remove when I went back to boards.
