As above, need a vacuum for occasional use (not because I don’t need to use it, but because I won’t). Needs to switch from carpet to hard floor with no faff. Won’t be doing the stairs with it (found brushing works much better). Looking to pay less for it that a second hand car. Thank you

sorry, i dont know ut have you considered a robot vacuum? then you only need to set it going, not actually do it!
not sure how well they work on carpet though.
as an aside, how did you get your name changed??

I’ve got a cat who wouldn’t like a robot cleaner and if they’re round how do they get in the corners? (I asked v nicely and explained my situation.)
I've also been thinking of getting a new vacuum cleaner (as it's probably at least a couple of decades since I used the old one!). This, which has very good reviews and a nice low price, is probably what I'll be buying:

Davebro - is that ‘sucky’ enough (I did google but I’m not sure I understand the suckiness guide).

Thanks Buenchico - that looks huge but probably more sensible in the long run.
^^^ I've just seen Dave's link. I might be tempted to go for that model, rather than the one in my own link but I'll have to give it a bit of thought.

i've sold my occasional vacuum cleaner, it was just gathering dust
I recently bought the one in your link Chris and I'm very happy with it, good suction and low noise. The other one looks very good value though and enough for a single person household. I have my twenty something son at home at the mo, he's very messy!
