Just had an email saying they are increasing by DD this month to £253! I currently pay £143 and I am £481 in credit. Needless to say I called them and explained that their arithmetic is miles off, there is no way, even with price increases that a 60% increase is right, especially as I am miles in credit. I think they have an error in their system I have sent them a detailed calculation based on their own predictions for the year ahead and it comes out at nothing like what they say. Anyone else had this? If you are with Octopus check your email.

Octopus! why does the spell check not work on the main question title?

sorry forgot to add the call centre bloke dropped the DD back down straight away.
Good result ... they didn't have a leg ( or 8 legs) to stand on

Jura is correct.......I pay by DD and can choice and control how much I pay by DD.

P.S Nice to see you back posting,Jura.
Yes, they tried to put ours up too, despite being in credit. We pay by direct debit, but told them to leave the amount as it was, and they agreed.
Our electricity bill has gone up by 270%.

jura; 11:09, once again spectacularly missing the point, I know all that. I'm not "harping on", I'm trying to a) find out if anyone else has had similar experience b) warn others. Try and read what is written.
Our DD has gone up. I don't know by how much - but for obvious reasons, its gone up.
We're not with Octopus.

naomi: yeah but by 60% when in credit over £400? seems a lot! ....and that's without factoring in the extra government fuel payment.

My 18 month Fixed Deal comes to an end on the last day of this month. I currently pay £37.85/month for gas and electric from BG.

Come on you ABers, have a guess what they will want to charge me and when I know I will check if anyone was right or near.

It has taken Total Energies 18 months to sort my mother's shop tricity bill out - and the shop has been empty and the power switched off. in being Monday, I got a bill that was correct at last as in being zero, the remaining standing charges that haven't been paid waivered + £100 - so nicely in credit. However, 18 months is ridicilous and only got prompt action from e-mailing one of their UK directors and waving the possibility of going to Ofgem in front of them. There's still a major discrepancy between the estimated read when the tenant left and the actual found on the dead meter after it was exchanged but that is a benefit for the tenant....
Forgot to say BG paid £65 into my bank account a few weeks ago.
I am with British Gas for elec and Gas. My fixed tarrif at the moment is £90.50 a month. The fixed tarrif ends in October but when I go on to BG website it states that I am on the best tarriff!! and say they will contact me nearer the time when my tarrif ends. I received and email yesterday from BG saying that I was £493.00 in credit and I was paying too much and I had 3 choices - 1.Reduce my D/D, 2. Have a partial refund of the credit or 3. Leave evrything as it is. I decided to leave it as it is as I have no idea what tarrif I will be on come October. At least they had the decency to contact me and give me the choice.
Evadora, I looked on the Martin Lewis website and was told to stay with BG on the rolling tariff and wait and see what happens over the coming weeks. BG haven't contacted me and I'm only 11 days away from the end of my Fixed Tariff. Well done for managing to get hold of them, I can't.
Ladybirder, if you go onto their website there is a chat button you can press and eventually someone will come on to hepl you. You might be in a queue but it does go down pretty quickly.
Sounds like when it all shakes out you'll be squids in.
hi TTT yes i am with octopus, and they did want to increas my DD. Last year i was paying £90 pm for G+E, but when all this cap lifting came in, i voluntarily increased it to £180 PM.
However, now they want to raise it to £231
In honesty i don't mind. I am there or thereabouts not in credit (nor debit) and i'd rather be ahead of the game and remain in credit so that if i had a big unexpected bill for say fixing my car or boiler or something, i could reduce the dd for a couple of months and use the credit
