Fake Grass With A Dog
6 Answers
My grass is getting a bit too much so was considering fake grass.
I have, of course, read up on it but am still confused.
My main worry is that i have a dog, some reviews say it holds the urine smell, others say it is too hot underfoot in the summer.
Does anyone have any personal experiences of fake grass and dogs they would share?

We had real grass before, so they were used to the real grass, but when we had the garden revamped they used the fake grass just the same - they never went on the flagged patio .... always on the fake grass.
As for the smell .... well I never noticed it. We did hose it down every now and again and I suppose the rain also helps wash things away.
When it's a hot day, it does get hotter than normal grass, but it does have to be quite a hot day for it to be really noticeable.
Overall - best move we ever made, I wouldn't go back to real grass after I've had fake grass.
If you do go ahead and decide to get fake grass, just make sure you get someone decent to fit it - a good solid foundation is the key :)

We had fake grass put down last year. The dog does pee on it, and yes, in the height of summer, it might smell. We just spray some Zoflora over it then hose it down.
It can get hot to touch when it's very hot outside, but my dog still walked and laid on it. He's a Bullmastiff, so quite short haired, who loves a sunbathe. In fact, I like laying on it in the summer, it's lovely and soft.
There are negatives to a fake lawn, especially for wildlife, but to be honest, with a dog that digs holes in everything, fake grass is a God send. As Giz stated, make sure you get someone that knows what they're doing.
