I'm thinking of growing onions next year on my allotment.  In previous years I've grown them on bare soil, which is OK, but the weeding becomes a chore.

I've seen on TV that some growers cultivate them through porous black ground cover.

Has anyone tried this method?

A couple of videos from across the pond for you.  (The first one is a general one about the type of ground cover.  The second one refers specifically to planting onions).  I'll leave it to you to decide whether or not it's something that you might want to try!

Thanks for the YouTube clips, Chris. I've already prepared the bed and covered it. I'll be cutting the holes in the cover and have the rows closer together. I'm looking to plant about 400 sets.

Lots of French onion soup there, Melv.🥣
