gas pressure is close to zero bar?

Hi, I recently noticed that my boiler pressure is close to zero bar- so when i turn the Powermax 155x on it heats up the appt for about 4 mins (the arm goes a little above zero) and then everything goes cold and the boiler switches itself on: 'lock out'... dead ... I was advised to turn it off but then thing is its freexing outside.... I need to make it work / repair it by myself; the boiler can't be more than 2 years old. Can anyone advise me how to make it work? Much appreciated.

Hi Amethist - you will need to top up the water in the boiler which will increase the pressure. You may find out how in the instruction booklet (if you haven't got one try Googling the make and model number) at worst you may need to ask a plumber to show you where the taps are. If you are still in contact with the guy who installed it get in touch with him - he should really have taken you through the procedure at the time. It's very simple once you know how! Good luck.

Check here for some general tips on finding the filling loop, which you need to add pressure to the system. There should be a valve to turn, you'll hear the water entering the system as you turn it. Good luck.

I think this is a floor mounted boiler so the water filling/pressurizing loop will be either inside the casing or somewhere connected to the heating pipes and mains water. The casing front will either lift or pull off. There will be two connections with a flexible hose between that may or may not be already connected. Once connected open one or two valves at the ends to fill with water until the pressure gauge shows 1 bar and then turn off the valves. Should then work ok.

Thank you very much for your advice; you are right it is a floor mounted boiler and of course, no guidance accompanying apart from DO NOT DRAIN; I have contacted the site manager this afternoon to ask for some explanations but I hit an answerphone (no surprise) so I guess until monday morning gentlemen, you are my only hope for some heat and hot water in the house;

I noted on the left hand side on the wall there is a knob/tap/valve connecting 2 pipes marked 'heating filling system point'; it's locked in a position parallel to the floor

on the right hand side on the wall there is a tap marked 'mains water turn off' connected to another quadrant with an indicator

does that help; oh man, do I have to try and open the whole thing? it's gas ... will it not be dangerous without any engineer around? apart from commonsense I do not possess much more... sorry!

Hammer; thank you for your advice; went to the site and it advises that I should use a bleed key (what a cruel name) to release the air in the heaters... I do not have one but all the heaters have taps on - can I try and undo them a little see if air comes out????? or shall I wait to re-pressurise it until I get hold of a key right? many many thanks

You have found it! The 'heating system filling point'. Don't worry it is water not gas! Assuming the pipe is connected you simply turn the valve or there may be two valves to turn to let the water in until it reaches 1 bar. The worst that can happen is you get wet if the pipe is not screwed on. Good luck.

Stanleyman, thank you so much; the pipes were connected because I heard all the water going into the system ( I no symptoms of flooding heheheh); the pressure went to 1 bar (a little above now) so I can use the hot water now; but I had to switch off the heating on the combi boiler as I do not have a bleed key and I can't empty the heaters; I have to wait for the man to come tomorrow and service it - once again many many thanks

Thanks for this brill info guys. I have my powermax 155x serviced every year by corgi engineer and last time the engineer was out to do this, I asked him to add some water as the preasure needle was on zero, he told me that it was not need as it's done automaticly. Only couple of day ago the boiler locked out, after reading the above info I opend the front pannel by unscrewing the two screws at the botom of the pannel and adding water to 1 bar. I now have hot water and heat, and would have cost alot of money that I cant afford at the moment.
